Two historic cannons recovered

Two historic cannons were recovered on Wednesday from the Strand Bank Road area, near Jyoti Nagar under North Port Police Station beside River Ganga by Biplab Roy, Administrator General and Official Trustee of West Bengal for State Judicial Museum and Research Centre at Kolkata.
Amitava Karkun, a Gun and Cannons expert was present during the operation. One Cannon was apparently used by Nabab Siraj-ud-Daulah in 1756 when he attacked Fort William. The Cannon may have been partly damaged by the East India Company after the battle of Palasi in 1757.
Another British-made Naval Cannon was also recovered. The length of the cannon is 7 ft approx. Both the cannons have been kept at the New Secretariat Building.
After the restoration, the cannons will be placed at the upcoming State Judicial Museum and Research Centre.
