Trinamool secures landslide victory in BJP MP’s stronghold

BALURGHAT: The saffron brigade faced a setback in BJP MP Sukanta Majumdar’s stronghold as the Trinamool Congress (TMC) swept all six seats in the Boaldar Cooperative Society elections under the Boaldar Gram Panchayat of Balurghat block. The results, announced on Sunday evening, triggered celebrations among TMC supporters, who marked the occasion with green colours.
The polling took place in the Kanjialsi area of Boaldar on Sunday afternoon, with approximately 675 voters casting their ballots. The results were declared by administrative officials on the same day. To ensure a peaceful voting process, police personnel were deployed on-site.
According to administrative sources, of the six seats in the cooperative society, three were reserved and three were open to all. Contestants from the Left Front, BJP and TMC vied for these seats. However, despite being Sukanta Majumdar’s constituency, BJP-supported candidates failed to make an impact. TMC emerged victorious in all six seats, sparking jubilation among party workers and supporters.
TMC leaders hailed the victory as a reflection of people’s trust in the party. Subhash Chaki, vice-president of the South Dinajpur district TMC, commented: “The people are with Trinamool Congress. They are aligned with Mamata Banerjee’s vision for development. Sukanta Majumdar has made false promises and this result reflects the people’s dissatisfaction. TMC candidates have won because of the trust people have in the party’s governance.”
