Trinamool candidate’s nomination cancelled in Krishnanagar South
Kolkata: The Election Commission has cancelled the nomination of TMC candidate Abhinav Bhattacharya from the Krishnanagar South Assembly Constituency, dealing a setback to the party ahead of the polls.
The decision was taken following scrutiny of his nomination papers, where authorities found that he had business links with a government body- an issue that violates electoral norms. According to election rules, candidates are not permitted to hold contracts or financial interests with government agencies,
as it may lead to a conflict of interest. Bhattacharya’s alleged association with such a contract led to the rejection of his candidature during the verification process.
Acting swiftly, TMC has now fielded Somnath Dutta as its new candidate for the seat. Party sources indicated that steps were taken immediately to avoid any disruption in campaign activities and to maintain momentum on the ground.
This development has triggered political reactions in the constituency, with opposition parties targeting the ruling TMC over the issue.
