Traffic restrictions in and around Red Road
Kolkata: Traffic on Red Road and the surrounding areas will be restricted for approximately five hours each morning for five days due to the rehearsals for the Republic Day parade rehearsals.
According to a notification published by the Kolkata Police, the restriction will come into effect from 4 am and will continue till 9 am, starting from January 16. The restrictions will continue till January 18 at a stretch for three days. However, the same restrictions will be imposed again on January 20 and January 22. Vehicle movement will remain suspended on Hospital Road, Lovers Lane, Queensway, Casuarina Avenue, Plassey Gate Road, Kidderpore Road, Red Road and Rani Rashmoni Avenue (Southern flank) between Government Place East and Government Place West. The Kingsway will be closed as and when necessary. No goods vehicles will be allowed to ply along the Strand Road and Saint Georges Gate Road.
Vehicles coming along Alipore Road and Belvedere Road via Zeerut Bridge and DL Khan Road towards AJC Bose Road will be diverted along AJC Bose Road, St Georges Gate Road, Strand Road, Kingsway / Auckland Road, Government Place (west) and onwards. Vehicles coming along Harish Mukherjee Road will be diverted via Cathedral Road, JL Nehru Road and Mayo Road for North bound movement.
South-bound vehicles of Red Road coming from Howrah side may be diverted through Esplanade Row (East), R R Avenue, JL Nehru Road, Mayo Road, Dufferin Road, Outram Road, Kingsway and Strand Road.
