TMC‘s Bikashnarayan Choudhury, actor Mafin Chakraborty joins BJP
Kolkata: Veteran Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Bikashnarayan Chowdhury and Bengali television actor Mafin Chakraborty reportedly joined the BJP on Friday.
The induction took place in the presence of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, who said both would primarily contribute to the party’s campaign efforts in the poll-bound state. Chowdhury, once associated with the TMC since its inception, was described by Adhikari as a grassroots leader who had actively fought against Left rule.
He reportedly played a key role during clashes with CPI(M) cadres in Mangalkot on August 8, 2009, and spent several months in jail.
Chowdhury has also served multiple terms in the Zilla Parishad and led various political movements in the district. According to Adhikari, Chowdhury had recently met senior BJP leaders, including Bhupender Yadav and state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya.
He alleged that Chowdhury faced multiple “false cases” and imprisonment in recent years without adequate support from his former party, prompting his decision to switch allegiance. Mafin Chakraborty, a familiar face in the Bengali television industry with roles in over 22 serials, is expected to bolster the BJP’s
outreach in the entertainment and youth segments. Both leaders are set to actively campaign for the BJP in constituencies including Bhawanipore and Nandigram.
