TMC offers Bengali delicacies to Amit Shah

Kolkata: Calling Union Home Minister Amit Shah a “tourist” during election season, the Trinamool Congress welcomed Shah with open arms and offered some of Bengal’s delicacies during Shah’s 15-day stay here.

Days after Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee said that the BJP would restrict Bengali food habits, including fish and meat, if it comes to power, her party on Thursday sharpened its attack against Union home minister Amit Shah ahead of his 15-day visit to the poll-bound state.

TMC in a post on X said that Bengal welcomes tourists with open arms and recommended non-vegetarian delicacies of West Bengal for him to try. “Amit Shah has announced his decision to spend 15 days in Bengal. Good. Bengal welcomes tourists with open arms. Stay for as long as you like. And do not miss out on some of our finest delicacies,” the party said.

The ruling party in Bengal also recommended Bengali delicacies like “Muri Ghonto, Pabda Macher Jhal, Ilish Bhapa, Chingri Malai Curry, Bhetki Paturi, Kosha Mangsho” and also wished for a pleasant stay.

Senior TMC leaders, including Banerjee, repeatedly criticised the BJP, alleging that they would impose restrictions on the food habits of people in Bengal if it came to power. The BJP has already imposed restrictions on the food habits of people in BJP-ruled states, TMC alleged.
