TMC accuses Guv of appointing BJP supporters as V-Cs
Kolkata: Amid the tussle between the state and Raj Bhavan, Trinamool Congress (TMC) has accused Governor C V Ananda Bose of allegedly giving priority to BJP supporters for appointment in the post of vice-chancellors (V-C) of state universities.
The state government lately has criticised the Governor, who is also the Chancellor of state universities, for repeatedly bypassing the education department while appointing V-Cs to state universities.
TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh has lashed out at Bose for the appointment of Dr Gautam Saha as the interim V-C of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya.
Kunal alleged: “Saha is a declared BJP supporter. This also becomes apparent from his social media posts. The person did not make any effort to hide his allegiance to the saffron brigade.” He alleged that by appointing such a person as the V-C, the Governor is destroying the image of such a renowned university. Kunal opined that Bose is doing the same with most state universities.
Ghosh said that the Governor is not doing his duties and is acting beyond his jurisdiction. “He is working as a BJP leader and agent. He also has other plans which if executed will not augur well for the universities.”
He further alleged that the Chancellor is causing anarchy in the universities and deliberately resorting to acts that pave the way for a crisis in the administration of these institutions.
The state education minister Bratya Basu has also criticised the Governor for what he alleged was an attempt to hijack the state’s education system.
West Bengal Educationists’ Forum of Vice-Chancellors and Academicians have written to the President of India, Droupadi Murmu asking for her intervention in instructing Governor C V Ananda Bose to respect and follow the acts, statutes and rules of the university system.
