TCS secures 20 acres in New Town’s ‘Silicon Valley’ for Rs 94 crore
Kolkata: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has reportedly acquired a 20-acre land parcel in the Bengal Silicon Valley Tech Hub at New Town through a long-term lease valued at Rs 94 crore, signalling a fresh push to expand its footprint in eastern India.
The land has been allotted by West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (WBHIDCO), the nodal agency overseeing the development of New Town as a planned urban and technology hub. While the allotment was made on March 22, 2023, the formal agreement for the transaction was executed on January 9, 2026, according to documents accessed via real estate analytics firm Propstack.
The parcel has been leased for more than 99 years, effectively granting TCS long-term development rights. It has been designated strictly for commercial office use or for setting up facilities related to the IT and IT-enabled services (IT/ITES) sector.
As per the terms of allotment, the company must complete construction and begin commercial operations within 36 months. The condition is in line with WBHIDCO’s policy to ensure the timely utilisation of land parcels within the technology hub. The Bengal Silicon Valley Tech Hub is being positioned as a major IT cluster aimed at attracting both domestic and global technology firms. TCS’s latest acquisition is expected to strengthen its operational capacity in Kolkata, where it already maintains a significant presence.
New Town has emerged as a preferred destination for IT and office developments due to its planned infrastructure, availability of large land parcels, and proximity to the airport—advantages that are limited in older parts of the city. The move reflects TCS’s continued focus on expanding campus-style developments across key urban centres.
