Suvendu to now avail ‘Z’ category security cover outside Bengal

Kolkata: Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari will reportedly be able to now avail his ‘Z’ category security cover throughout the country instead of it being limited to just Bengal.

Reports indicated that following a report by the Intelligence Bureau, the Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to extend Adhikari’s security cover to states outside Bengal. The IB report indicates the present threat perception to Adhikari’s life.

It was learnt that so far Adhikari, who is also the Leader of Opposition in state Assembly, used to get Y category security cover outside Bengal while inside the state, he gets to avail Z category security cover.

Former Trinamool Congress MLA Suvendu Adhikari was accorded a ‘Z’ category VIP security cover by the central government in 2021. It was then stated that at all places except Bengal, he will have a ‘Y+’ cover by the Central paramilitary force.

Under the ‘Z’ category, Adhikari has a mobile team of about six to seven armed CRPF commandos and a pilot and escort vehicle.

In the 2021 Assembly elections, Adhikari defeated Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee from the Nandigram Assembly constituency. He had resigned from TMC and joined BJP ahead of the elections.
