STF recovers huge arms cache, one arrested

Special Task Force (STF) of the state police on Tuesday unearthed an arms cache and arrested a man from a house in Goalpokhar in North Dinajpur.

According to police, acting on a tip-off, cops of STF assisted by the cops of Goalpokhor police station conducted a raid at the house of Md. Alam at Panjipara on Monday afternoon. During the raid, cops recovered five 7mm pistols, three one-shooters, 80 rounds of 7mm bullets, 100 rounds of 8 mm bullets and 10 pistol magazines.

It is suspected that the arms were stored in order to deliver those before the panchayat elections somewhere. Police are investigating to find out the destination of the arms seized.

After a case was registered at the Goalpokhon police station by the STF, the Superintendent of Police, Islampur Police District, Jaspreet Singh said: “Eight firearms and a good number of ammunition were seized from the spot so far. One was arrested. We are to trace other accused in this case.”
