State closes IC New Town PS, submits report in court
Kolkata: The state on Tuesday submitted in Calcutta High Court that the Inspector-in-Charge (IC) of New Town Police Station has been closed to the police headquarters of Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate.
The report was submitted at the bench of Justice Tirthankar Ghosh. The report enclosed documents along with certain contentions regarding the steps taken by the investigating officer of the case. The report also reflected that the state has also prayed for cancellation of bail of the accused persons which is pending before the learned CJM, Barasat, North 24-Parganas. Moreover, several witnesses, including the medical officer who treated the petitioner as well as other witnesses, have been recorded under Section 180 of the BNSS.
The court said that the investigating officer, as is reflected in the report, will take the investigation of the case to its logical conclusion within a reasonable period of time.
In the last hearing in December, court had directed the state to take action against the Inspector in Charge (IC) of the New Town Police Station, within January 10 else the court itself will take steps.
The case relates to a complaint by the petitioner against a promoter who allegedly was trying to grab land belonging to the family of the petitioner against their will. The IC allegedly was shielding the promoter in this case. The court had said that the state needs to take steps against this officer who has several complaints of inaction against him. The judge had said: “He is not supposed to work in a commissionerate zone, send him to the Bengal zone. You check the track record of this particular officer. I have checked. Which police stations he covered and what incidents took place. Check his previous five postings…”
