Speaker warns BJP MLA for making ‘false’ claims on sports stadium funding

Kolkata: Bengal Assembly Speaker Biman Bandopadhyay on Wednesday cautioned BJP MLA Ashoke Dinda against presenting any misinformation on the floor of the House.

Earlier, Dinda in the Assembly claimed that the Centre was ready to provide Rs 50 crore to the state government for setting up a sports stadium in Jalpaiguri but the latter refused to accept the funds. The letter sent by the Centre earlier in this regard did not mention funds. The Speaker warned the BJP MLA that such wrong information cannot be provided. The Speaker also reminded that a first time MLA like Dinda must maintain the decorum of the House. State Sports and Youth Affairs minister Aroop Biswas on December 4, said in the Assembly that the ‘Biswa Bangla Krirangan’ which was set up by the Mamata Banerjee government in North Bengal and later handed over to Sports Authority of India (SAI) has become a grazing ground for cows due to the apathy of the Central government. State government had set up a stadium at a cost of Rs 110 crore and handed it over to the SAI as a memorandum-of-understanding (MoU) was signed between the two parties saying that 7 different sports units would be set up. But in reality, the Centre has completely turned a blind eye to any further development of infrastructure, the minister had claimed. The BJP MLA Dinda had claimed that the Centre wished to provide funds which he failed to corroborate with documents.
