Kolkata: The search for good quality food at a subsidised rate for the MLAs of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly and their guests will be a thing of the past with Speaker Biman Banerjee inaugurating a restaurant adjacent to MLA hostel on Kyd Street on Thursday.

A well-known catering brand in the city that will be running the restaurant already operates a canteen inside the MLA hostel as well as in the state Assembly where food is offered at a very subsidized rate.

“There are 250 rooms in the MLA hostel and when the MLAs come to the city for attending Assembly sessions or for standing committee meetings various guests, including foreigners, come to meet them. The restaurant will be serving quality food at a subsidised rate for the MLAs and their guests,” Banerjee said.

The restaurant will also satiate the taste buds of common people with Chinese, Indian and other varieties of food.

Meanwhile, the Speaker expressed his displeasure over several Bills pending with the Governor after getting passed in the state Assembly and hoped that the latter will do the needful as the Bills need to be put into effect for the welfare of the common people.

Deputy Chief Whip of state Assembly Tapas Roy and other senior officials of the Assembly were present during the inauguration.
