Sealdah: 3 suspected Rohingyas detained

Kolkata: Three suspected Rohingya infiltrators originally from Myanmar were detained by the Government Railway Police (GRP) from Sealdah station on Saturday morning.

The detainees include two minor girls and a youth. Prima facie enquiry has revealed that they were planning to travel to Kashmir.

The two minors – Nur Fatima and Shabu Panehar who are less than 12 years old and the youth Abdul Rehman are all residents of Myanmar’s Bhusidom area.

According to sources, Abdul was trying to take these two girls to Kashmir by luring them of lucrative jobs taking advantage of their financial constraints. They had been staying at a camp in Bangladesh before entering Bengal.

Police believe that they have entered Bengal from any of the border areas and reached Sealdah by train.

The sleuths became suspicious observing the way they were entering the station premises.

The three were detained by Sealdah GRP for interrogation, during which Abdul claimed that they were subjected to torture in Bangladesh and hence they were travelling to Kashmir in search of a job.

“We have to verify the statement of Abdul to ascertain whether he is speaking the truth or he is the middleman of any woman trafficking racket,” a GRP officer said.
