PV Anvar made Kerala state convenor of Trinamool Congress

Kolkata: Kerala Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday announced the name of PV Anvar as the state convenor. Anvar had joined Trinamool Congress last Friday. With an eye on strengthening the organisation in Kerala, the Trinamool Congress has taken a strategic move.

In a post on X, the ruling party in Bengal said: “All India Trinamool Congress under the inspiration and guidance of Hon’ble Chairperson Smt. @MamataOfficial is pleased to announce the @aitc4kerala Convenor. We wish the very best to him in his endeavours.”

Kerala’s Nilambur MLA, PV Anvar had joined Trinamool Congress in the presence of the party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. There were speculations about whether he was aligning himself with the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) in Kerala. Putting a stop to speculations, Anvar joined Trinamool Congress. Anvar won assembly election from Nilambur Constituency in 2016 and 2021. In 2024, he formed his own party, Democratic Movement of Kerala.

On Monday, he submitted his resignation as an MLA at Kerala Assembly. Trinamool Congress on social media stated that as per the decision of the Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee, Anvar has been assigned with new responsibility. Trinamool Congress also congratulated him who had said that he joined the party after being inspired by the development projects and social schemes carried out by the Mamata Banerjee government in Bengal.

Trinamool Congress has already made its presence felt in various states like Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya as its organisation is being built up in those parts of the country. Incidentally, in October 2024, three prominent figures from Assam — Dulu Ahmed, Sisir Dev Kalita and Sanjib Mahanta — joined Trinamool

Congress in Kolkata.
