One held in Raju Jha murder case

East Burdwan police arrested a person from Durgapur on Tuesday night in connection with the Raju Jha murder case.

The accused Avijit Mondal was arrested from the Panagarh area on the basis of a source input, police claimed. On Wednesday, Superintendent of Police (SP) of East Burdwan, Kamanasish Sen said that Mondal was evading police radar since Raju was murdered.

Police claimed that Mondal is suspected to have been involved in the murder. He is getting interrogated to find out his involvement in detail.

Mondal was reportedly an employee of a private company. Earlier he reportedly used to drive the car of a coal mafia in the Ranigunj area. With the alleged coal mafia, Raju had some sort of rivalry. Police suspect that Mondal is one of the masterminds of the murder.

Raju was shot dead by unknown miscreants on April 1 in Shaktigarh when he had stopped for a break while travelling in a car.

A few miscreants from a blue hatchback car shot him multiple times when Raju’s driver went to buy some snacks. He was dead at the Burdwan Medical College and Hospital.

Meanwhile, a few hours after the incident, police found the blue hatchback in an abandoned condition near the Shaktigarh Police Station on the road locally known as old G T Road.

While probing, cops found five fake registration plates from the blue hatchback which were used to confuse cops.

To fool the police personnel, the miscreants also tampered with the engine number and chassis number of the car.

But the forensic experts were able to retrieve the details following which cops came to know that the car was stolen from the Janakpuri area of Delhi.
