Kolkata: Passengers travelling to Howrah station by bus are allegedly facing significant inconvenience as vehicles are being diverted via Hare Street crossing and Fairly Place Road before rejoining Strand Road, leading to longer travel times due to an obstruction near the state Election Commission’s office.

According to sources, a stretch of Strand Road in front of the Shipping Corporation building—where the Commission’s office was recently shifted—has been blocked by police using guardrails. The blockade follows ongoing protests by members of the BLO Adhikar Raksha Mancha over the past few days.

As a result, buses heading towards Howrah are being rerouted, causing delays. Commuters have alleged that the diversion is increasing travel time considerably, with many daily passengers missing their trains while returning home after work due to congestion.
