KOLKATA: The State Tourism department has introduced the luxurious MV Chitrarekha for a nominal cost from the state Tourism Jetty (Babughat) for people to witness the evening ritual of Ganga Aarti.

The reporting time for the cruise at the beginning point is 5:45 pm and the cruise will take place from 6 pm to 7 pm. The department has kept a nominal cost of Rs 100 per person. The department had shared about the cruise on their social media, stating, “Experience the divinity of the #GangaAartiDarshan, on the luxurious MV Chitrarekha and witness the mesmerising evening ritual of #GangaAarti while cruising along the river Ganges.” They have also mentioned the details in that post.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on March 2 had marked the beginning of Ganga Aarti for the first time in the state from Baje Kadmatala Ghat in Kolkata. The people of the state no longer need to travel to Varanasi for beholding Ganga Aarti. “The Ganga Aarti will be held everyday from now on-during summer it will be held from 7 pm while in the winter it will be held from 6 pm. There will be seating arrangements on two sides for the people who would come to observe the Ganga Aarti,” Banerjee said.
