Negligence: Divine Nursing Home fined Rs 10 lakh

Kolkata: The West Bengal Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission (WBCERC) on Monday imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on Divine Nursing Home for its alleged medical negligence.

Ravisankar Sau admitted his wife to the hospital for delivery. The mother had given birth to a healthy girl child weighing 2.9 kgs in the morning. The baby died late in the evening of the same day. It was alleged that the infant died due to respiratory issues while being fed. The WBCERC while hearing the case on Monday spotted negligence on the part of the hospital. The commission came to know that there were two nurses on duty at the time of the incident. One nursing staff quit the job after the incident while another was on leave.

The Commission has detected gross negligence on the part of the private hospital.

In another development, the WBCERC also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the Holy Palace hospital in Darjeeling for its alleged negligence.

The Commission said that one Moinak Das admitted his patient Manoranjan Das. The hospital had fitted a catheter on the patient to help him pass urine. During the process the patient started bleeding.

The patient was referred to another hospital but he died later. The commission has observed that none of these two hospitals cannot deny responsibility.
