Nadia: Villagers duped with promise of Awas Yojana benefits

Kolkata: Several people were duped by an unknown fraudster after they were lured into a trap with a promise to arrange the facilities of the Awas Yojana at Shantipur in Nadia district.

Several residents of Polta village in Shantipur received calls from unknown persons

offering assistance to avail benefits of the Awas Yojana.

When the villagers wished to get the benefits, the callers asked them for their bank and Aadhaar details. In good faith, the villagers shared the information following which each of them received OTP on their mobile phones.

They were asked to then share the OTPs.

Once shared, money got debited from each of the villagers’ bank accounts. Later, they lodged complaints at the cyber crime police station. Police have launched a probe to trace the culprits.
