Missing girl’s body found in Farakka

Malda: The decomposed body of a female engineering student, who was reported missing eight days ago, was discovered at Farakka’sGanga Ghat.

The body of the girl identified as Dipti Bhagat (20) was found under mysterious circumstances, raising questions if she died by suicide or murder. Her family, devastated by grief, is demanding a thorough investigation.

Dipti left her home in Barduari village in Harishchandrapur last Sunday, intending to travel to Dumka via Rampurhat by train. She spoke with her family over the phone until she reached Malda Town

station. After that, all communication ceased. CCTV footage from Farakka station later revealed her exiting the train. Her bag and mobile phone were discovered near NTPC Netaji Bridge, but she remained untraceable. The mystery deepened when her family received a message on Friday night from an unknown number, demanding a ransom of Rs 2 lakh in exchange for information about her whereabouts. A day later, her body was found at Shankarpur Ghat in Farakka.

Police have launched an investigation, but the family is urging a speedy and transparent inquiry to uncover the truth behind the girl’s tragic death.
