Man held from Delhi for asking KP to provide relief to an accused

Kolkata: A man was arrested on Thursday night from Daryaganj in Delhi for allegedly asking the Kolkata Police over phone to provide relief to a person against whom an arrest warrant was issued by impersonating a high-ranking official of the Income Tax department.
According to police, on November 26, around 7:50 pm, a call was received at the office of the commissioner of Police (CP), Kolkata, asking to provide relief to a person against whom an arrest warrant was issued by the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s (CJM) Court, Calcutta. After a preliminary enquiry, a case was registered by the police at the Shakespeare Sarani Police Station against the caller whose location was traced in Delhi.
Police also approached the court for a non-bailable arrest warrant which was also granted. Accordingly, a few days ago, a police team went to Daryaganj and on Thursday night, the accused identified as Javed Faridi was arrested. He was produced at the Tis Hazari Court on Friday following which the court granted transit remand till December 14. Faridi will be produced at the CJM Court, Calcutta on Saturday.
