Malda: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is set to inaugurate 123 development projects and lay foundation stones for 76 others in Malda district on January 21, marking a significant step in the state’s ongoing infrastructure and welfare initiatives. The total value of these projects is approximately Rs 334.69 crore for inaugurations and Rs 876.86 crore for foundation stone-laying ceremonies.

The inauguration event will take place at a field near Vivekananda Yuva Abas in English Bazar where Banerjee will also distribute benefits to 43 beneficiaries. The projects span multiple sectors, from infrastructure to social welfare, aiming to improve the lives of Malda’s residents.

Some of the key inaugurated projects include the Malda Bhavan Construction (Rs 3 crore) in Kolkata, which will benefit the entire population of the region. The Manikchak 132/35kV High-Capacity Gas Insulated Substation (Rs 90.72 crore) will enhance power supply to over 5 lakh people in the region. The Chanchal Special Correctional Facility (Rs 35.49 crore) aims to improve facilities for accused individuals, while the Cluster Irrigation Project (Rs 4.87 crore) will irrigate over 300 hectares of land, benefitting 1,300 farmers. Other infrastructural improvements include road and bridge development projects, such as the Kalichak-III Road (Rs 2.53 crore) and Gazole-Beldangi Road Surfacing (Rs 3.59 crore), which will directly benefit thousands of people.

The Chief Minister will also lay foundation stones for several major initiatives, including the Large Groundwater-Based Water Supply Project (Rs 680.69 crore), expected to provide clean water to over 7 lakh people in Chanchal-II, Ratua-I and Ratua-II blocks. Additionally, smaller but significant projects like the Makhana Processing Cluster (Rs 75.86 lakh) and the New Moyna Health Centre (Rs 39 lakh) are designed to enhance local livelihoods and healthcare facilities.

Krishnendu Narayan Choudhury, Chairman of EBM, said: “The CM’s security is being taken care of as she is scheduled to visit Malda on Monday afternoon and attend the benefit distribution programme on the next day.”

The CM will arrive on January 21, landing at the Hasimara Air Force Base and will stay at the Malangi Forest Bungalow in the Jaldapara Forest Division. On January 22, she will hold an administrative meeting at the parade ground in Alipurduar town and later return to the Malangi Forest Bungalow. The visit concludes on January 23 with a government service distribution programme at the Subhashini Tea Garden grounds in Hasimara, after which she will return to Kolkata.
