Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday once again questioned the silence of the BJP (without naming the party) and asserted that INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) will mend wounds and rekindle the flame of humanity in Manipur that has been rocked by ethnic violence for quite some time.

“My heart aches deeply upon hearing the heart-wrenching stories from Manipur. Human lives should never endure the agonies of hatred’s cruel experiments. Yet, in the face of silence from those in power, let us find solace in knowing that INDIA will mend wounds and rekindle the flame of humanity. I earnestly plead to Manipur’s brave brothers and sisters to embrace peace for the sake of humanity. We stand beside you, offering unwavering support and compassion,” Banerjee tweeted, a day when the 21-member multi-party delegation of MPs of the Opposition’s (INDIA) that was in Manipur over the weekend to assess the situation returned to New Delhi.

It vowed to take the stories of the people on the floor of Parliament. Most of them complained of the pathetic condition of the relief camps where those hit by the violence across the states have been housed.

Banerjee had alleged in the Assembly on Thursday that the BJP was trying to create communal disharmony in Bengal for electoral purposes just like it had engineered the strife in Manipur. She said the proposed visit of the Opposition MP team will do good for Manipur.

“A team of INDIA is visiting Manipur. It’ll do good. Let them go and see the situation themselves, talk to the people there, and listen to them. I had written to them (Centre) to allow me to go, but I was not given permission,” she had said, adding that she had sought permission to visit the north-eastern state but was denied.

Ethnic violence broke out in Manipur nearly three months ago, killing over 160 people since then, and injuring hundreds.

Trinamool Congress will table a motion to discuss and condemn the ethnic violence in Manipur in the ongoing session of the state Assembly on Monday and the Chief Minister will be speaking on the motion too.
