Malda ranks 3rd in national ‘Eat Right Challenge’

MALDA: Malda district has secured the joint 3rd position in the nation in the 2nd Eat Right Challenge conducted by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Government of India. Malda district along with other districts of West Bengal participated in the same with directives from the Health and Family Welfare (H and FW) department.

The Eat Right Challenge competition deals with various aspects related to food safety and hygiene. Malda scored 192 out of 200 to secure the 3rd rank, jointly with Varanasi of Uttar Pradesh.

The official mail with this declaration has reached the district magistrate’s office.

Nitin Singhania, District Magistrate Malda, said: “This is a great honour for Malda to stand 3rd competing with many other districts of the country. The credit goes to the entire team that has worked relentlessly as per the state H and FW department guidelines.

This success is a result of the contribution of all team members with special mention to Rajarshi Mitra, the previous DM Malda and Additional District Magistrate (General) Vaibhav Choudhary.”

For the last 18 months, Malda district administration has been holding camps for this. Visits to different food outlets; Levying penalties on unhygienic shops; Registering new ones; Canceling and issuance of licenses as per need has brought Malda the required points to achieve the third spot in the country.

The administration has also started a hygiene rating for restaurants.

As per the results, only Coimbatore of Tamil Nadu with 196 points and Bhopal of Madhya Pradesh with 193 are ahead of Malda in

the competition.
