KMC to set up new booster pumping station at Ward 59
Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has approved a project to construct a semi underground reservoir cum booster pumping station in Ward 59 for better distribution of treated surface water in low pressure belts.
According to KMC, presently Ward 59 sources its water from Park Circus booster pumping station. However, this treated surface water cannot cover the entire ward. As a result some areas are served through power driven tubewells. There are also some low pressure areas in the ward. The entire matter was thoroughly studied by the Water Supply department.
It was learnt that on detailed enquiry it was found that for substitution of ground water by means of treated surface water and also for the improvement of low pressure belts, it is essential to install one semi underground reservoir (SUGR) cum booster pumping station in Ward 59. The councillor of the ward had also requested for the same.
After a survey by engineers of the Water Supply department, a land was found at 14 Lokenath Bose Garden Lane for installation of the same. A 1.3 MG capacity SUGR-cum-pumping station will be set up there. It was learnt that the water from the 20 MGD capacity water treatment plant (WTP), taken up for construction at the existing campus of Jai Hind WTP, will provide water to this booster pumping station in Ward 59.
The Water Supply department has prepared an estimate of Rs 8,78,54, 970. The fund will be provided from the 15 Finance Commission grant. The proposal was earlier cleared at a mayor-in-council meeting and was finally approved by KMC in its recent monthly meeting.
