Khagragarh blast convict taken into police remand

Kolkata: The Special Task Force (STF) of Bengal police have shown arrest of one of the Khagragarh blast convicts in connection with the ongoing probe of terror activity in the state having connection with the Assam Police drive

‘Operation Praghat’.

Earlier, two active members of a terror outfit ‘Ansarullah Bangla Team’ (ABT) were arrested from Hariharpara in Murshidabad during a joint raid by the Assam Police and the STF. Police learnt that the duo Md. Abbas and Minarul Sheikh, arrested from Hariharpara, were in touch with one of the convicts in the Khagragarh blast case, Tarikul Islam. Abbas, arrested a few years ago in connection with another case, met Tarikul in judicial custody.

On learning about Tarikul’s involvement, a team from the Assam Police arrived at Berhampore Correctional Home and reportedly interrogated Tarikul. Later, the Assam Police appealed for his police custody at the Berhampore Court. Bengal police STF also appealed for Tarikul’s remand in connection with the case of Nowada police station registered about a week ago in connection with an alleged terror activity by two persons who were arrested. The court granted the appeal of the state police STF and remanded Tarikul to seven days police custody. Once the custody period is over, Assam Police is likely to appeal for Tarikul’s remand.
