Kalighat Skywalk: CM tells Mayor to appoint PWD or KMDA to complete work
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday instructed Mayor Firhad Hakim to engage either Public Works Department or Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) for construction work of the Kalighat skywalk.
She expressed her displeasure over the delay in work and instructed Hakim who is also the state Urban Development and Municipal Affairs minister to bar the existing agency associated with the work because of their lackadaisical attitude.
Banerjee who inaugurated the newly constructed Solo Ana Gate leading to Solo Ana mosque in Ekbalpore further asked Hakim to construct one statue and a gate in honour of Guru Ravidas at land available near the Kolkata Municipal Corporation headquarters. “Every year during the birth anniversary of Guru Rabidas, there is an assembly of a huge number of devotees, so a community hall should be set up for holding cultural programme,” Banerjee said.
Ravidas was an Indian mystic poet-saint of the Bhakti movement during the 15th to 16th century CE. Banerjee also expressed her desire for the rejuvenation of the gate of Rabindra Bharati University keeping its originality intact. “I will ask the Education department to do the needful, as and when funds are available,” she added.
Banerjee also directed for construction of another gate of Nakhoda Masjid.
