Kaliachak murder case: One more held

Malda: The police have arrested Mohammad Rijaul, also known as Rezaul, in connection with the incident of a violent clash between two factions of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the Nauda Jadupur region of Kaliachak, which escalated into a shooting, resulted in the death of

one TMC worker.

Rezaul, a resident of Naya Gram in the region, was apprehended by the police on Wednesday night from Shershahi area. He was later produced in the Malda District Court and remanded to ten days of police custody.

The confrontation occurred between the factions led by local TMC leaders Zakir Shaikh who had joined TMC from Congress in October 2024 and Bakul Sheikh.

The altercation resulted in the death of TMC worker Ataur alias Hasa Shaikh, who was reportedly thrashed to death. There are also allegations of an attempted murder of Bakul Shaikh and his brother, former TMC GP head, Esaruddin.
