Kakdwip & Namkhana Railway stns get facelift

Kolkata: To improve the travel experience for pilgrims attending the Gangasagar Mela 2025, the Sealdah Division of Eastern Railway has given a major facelift to the Kakdwip and Namkhana Railway stations. These key gateways, which serve millions of pilgrims, have been enhanced with vibrant decor and modern amenities.

The station walls now feature captivating paintings that showcase the beauty of the Sunderbans, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its diverse ecosystem and the iconic Royal Bengal Tiger. “These artistic representations will serve as a visual feast for the pilgrims, highlighting the region’s natural wonders,” said an official. In addition to the aesthetic upgrades, modern sanitation facilities have been installed, with numerous modern toilets and bathrooms for both male and female passengers. These have been strategically placed across the stations to ensure the comfort and hygiene of the large crowds anticipated during the religious event. “Our priority is to provide world-class facilities to our commuters, especially during such significant religious events.” said Deepak Nigam, divisional railway manager (DRM) of Sealdah. “Our team has worked tirelessly to ensure that both Kakdwip and Namkhana stations are not only visually appealing but also fully equipped to handle the high volume of pilgrims.”

Sealdah station has also been upgraded to facilitate a smooth travel experience. To meet the increased demand during the Ganga Sagar Mela, 102 special train services are being operated between Sealdah and Namkhana from January 9 to January 17.
