Howrah: At least 150 shops gutted in fire, none injured

About 150 shops in the market adjacent to Ludlow Jute Mill were gutted after a major fire broke out late on Tuesday night at Chanegail in Howrah.
Though no one was hurt in the incident, the shop owners incurred a huge loss.
According to sources, the market was built several years ago for the employees of the jute mill. However, later the market was opened to all and local people also used to buy goods from there despite it being located inside the mill premises.
Around 1:30 am on Tuesday, flames were spotted by some of the local residents. They informed the shop owners who rushed to the spot. Before they could act, the flames started spreading to the shops. A few LPG cylinders also exploded.
After a while four fire tenders were pressed into action. But due to the increasing intensity of the fire, six more fire tenders were sent. After almost five and a half hours, the fire was controlled.
