GRP staff apprehended for ‘appropriating money from passengers’

Kolkata: Eastern Railway’s vigilance team apprehended a Government Railway Police (GRP) staff for appropriating money from the passengers at Sealdah Station.

Based on the source information regarding malpractices by GRP staff who allegedly collected money from passengers to allot seats in the handicap coach, a decoy check was conducted by Eastern Railway vigilance team at Sealdah Station on July 14.

Anand Bhatia, Senior Deputy General Manager and Chief Vigilance Office of Eastern Railway directed the team to conduct a raid to nab the accused GRP staff. The team approached the Hatebazar Express (13163 Up) at Platform No. 14 of Sealdah station. The decoy passengers approached the GRP staff manning the rear SLR (Seating cum Luggage Van) coach who in turn directed them to his colleague manning the front SLR.

The decoy passengers then asked the GRP staff at the front SLR for a seat and the GRP staff asked for Rs 300.

The decoy passengers paid the money and immediately apprehended the accused.
