EC orders immediate suspension of Khandaghosh joint BDO
Kolkata: The Election Commission on Friday ordered the immediate suspension of a joint block development officer (BDO) in poll-bound West Bengal and directed initiation of disciplinary proceedings against her.
The poll body did not specify the grounds for the action.
In a letter to the state’s chief secretary, the EC said the move against Jyotsna Khatun, joint BDO of Khandaghosh in Purba Bardhaman, was based on a recommendation from the chief electoral officer.
“The commission has agreed to the proposal and directs that Jyotsna Khatun be suspended and disciplinary action be initiated immediately,” the letter stated.
Khatun had been notified as the Assistant Returning Officer (ARO) for the 259-Khandaghosh Assembly constituency.
The EC asked authorities to implement the order immediately and submit a compliance report by 11 am on Saturday.
It also directed that a replacement for the vacant post be proposed urgently.
