Dense fog likely to continue for next two days, predicts MeT

Kolkata: Several South Bengal districts witnessed dense fog on Monday morning and the situation will continue the same in the next two days, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore said.
Due to low visibility in the morning, various modes of transport, especially flight and train services were affected early on Monday morning. Visibility in several districts, including South 24-Parganas, North 24-Parganas, West Burdwan, Birbhum, Murshidabad and Nadia, may drop below 50 metres due to dense fog over the next two days. Other districts in the region will also experience fog disrupting normal life.
The MeT office also said that there is likely to be rainfall in various North Bengal districts. There is a possibility of snowfall in the hilly regions of Darjeeling and Kalimpong due to the western disturbance on Tuesday. Light rain is anticipated in Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri. However, the weather in North Bengal is expected to turn dry by Wednesday. Dense fog will also be prevalent in the plains of North Bengal, particularly in Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, North and South Dinajpur and Malda districts.
The MeT office also warned that visibility in several parts of North Bengal is expected to fall below 50 metres, potentially disrupting transportation.
