A school student was killed in Deganga of North 24-Parganas on Tuesday night after bombs were allegedly hurled by ISF and CPI(M) workers during a Trinamool Congress rally.

Police have arrested five persons in connection with the incident. According to sources, on Tuesday night, a rally was going on at the Swaisetpu Panchayat area when miscreants started hurling bombs. In the rally, Trinamool Congress worker Md. Arshadul Haque was walking taking part.

With him, his nephew aged about 17 years was also walking.

Due to the explosion, the student of class XI suffered splinter injuries. He was rushed to Biswanathpur rural hospital where the boy was declared brought dead. This apart on Tuesday tension spread at Chakla Panchayat area after a clash broke out between the Trinamool Congress and ISF workers.

About 10 people suffered injuries during the clash. Later a large contingent of police force, including the Rapid Action Force, brought the situation under control.
