BALURGHAT: A three-day theatre workshop that was flagged off in Balurghat’s Rabindra Bhawan on Friday, ended on Sunday. The workshop was organised by Paschim Banga Natya Academy in association with the District Information and Cultural department, South Dinajpur.

As many as 20 trainees under the Malda Division covering four districts-Malda, Murshidabad, North Dinajpur and South Dinajpur had participated in it. Out of 20 trainees, 13 were male and 7 were female. Two popular theatre personalities from Kolkata, Partha Banerjee and Supriyo Chakraborty were present as resource persons for the workshop.

District Information and Cultural Officer (DICO) Rajesh Kumar Mondal said: “We were grateful to Partha Banerjee, a former student of National School of Drama, New Delhi who had earlier agreed to impart training. Supriyo Chakraborty, who was his assistant and a renowned theatre activist, had also come.”

“The workshop started at 10 am and ended at 5 pm every day. It would definitely help the trainees with stage performance in the future,” he said.

Partha Banerjee said: “Without proper training, no one can perform well on stage. Voice-modulation, gesture-posture, dialogue delivery and body language are the key ingredients of stage performance. In the workshop, we provided basic knowledge to the trainees.”

One of the trainee participants, Sreetama Chakraborty said: “We have immensely benefited from this workshop. On Sunday, we presented a theatre on the stage.”

Balurghat has five theatre-auditoriums namely Rabindra Bhawan, Natyamandir, Tritirtha and Natya

Utkarsha Kendra.
