Crude bomb explosion injures Class 5 student in Cooch Behar
Cooch Behar: A Class 5 student in the Hazra Haat area of Mathabhanga subdivision, Cooch Behar district, was injured after a crude bomb exploded while he was playing with it, mistaking it for a ball. The incident, which occurred on Monday, sparked concerns and drew political reactions.
The boy, who was playing in a park near his house, picked up a crude bomb thinking it was a ball. While he was throwing it, the bomb exploded in his hand, injuring him severely. He was promptly taken to Mathabhanga Sub Divisional Hospital for treatment.
Upon learning of the explosion, Mathabhanga police arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation into the incident. The police are working to determine how the bomb came into the park and whether there were any malicious intentions behind the incident.
Local sources said that the boy was playing alone when the explosion occurred.
Trinamool Congress leader Partha Pratim Roy has raised concerns about the origins of the bomb, claiming that it could be linked to political violence in the area. He said: “About three years ago, BJP’s miscreants were involved in a violent incident here and several BJP members were arrested. It is possible that this bomb was planted by them. The full details will emerge during the police investigation.”
BJP’s district general secretary Biraj Bose expressed sympathy for the injured child and held the Trinamool Congress responsible for recent bomb-related incidents.
He said: “While this incident is deeply saddening, it is important to note that the Trinamool Congress has been opening bomb factories in various areas, which is why such incidents continue to happen.”
