Bouncer killed in Alipurduar

Alipurduar: The body of a bouncer from an elite hotel in Alipurduar city was recovered with a gunshot wound on the head, in the vicinity of the Bala Bridge on National Highway 31C, under the Kalchini Police Station on Sunday. Police identified the victim, Gaurav Mukherjee, as a resident of Bholardabri near Alipurduar town. Five persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.

According to police sources, the hotel’s CCTV footage revealed that Gaurav left the hotel for the last time in a luxury car, accompanied by four hotel bouncers and another individual, at around 12:22 pm on Saturday. Gaurav’s body was found on the roadside near Bala bridge on Sunday. Post-mortem examination indicated that Gaurav was shot at point-blank range in the forehead.

Y Raghuvamshi, the district Superintendent of Police, stated: “During investigation, it was determined that one of the five individuals, Liton Sarkar of Pundirbari, possessed a licensed firearm. Liton was heavily intoxicated and engaged in an altercation with the victim, ultimately shooting him in the head. Preliminarily, it appears that the altercation was over a minor dispute. However, further investigation is ongoing. Liton has been arrested, and efforts are underway to seize both his licensed firearm and the vehicle. The other four individuals who were in the car have also been taken in for questioning.”
