App cab driver held for molestation

Kolkata: An app cab driver was arrested on Saturday for allegedly molesting a woman who is a lawyer of the Calcutta High Court.

According to sources, the lawyer booked a cab for her journey to the Nagerbazar area from Lake Gardens in the evening. After the cab arrived and she boarded, she found that the air conditioner (AC) was off and the window was also shut. It is alleged that when she asked the driver to turn on the AC, he refused and later he allegedly started misbehaving with the woman.

The lawyer further alleged that suddenly the driver asked the woman to come to the front seat. When she denied, the cab driver allegedly started an altercation.

When the woman tried to call the police by dialling 100, he allegedly tried to stop her from doing so. However, she had already informed the police and the cab’s location. The cab was intercepted by the police near Lake Gardens flyover and the driver was detained. Later the woman lodged a complaint at the Charu Market Police Station following which the driver was arrested.
