Bengal wants Tatas to specify what they plan to do with Singur land

West Bengal Minister of Commerce and Industries, Partha Chatterjee while inaugurating the West Bengal Pavilion India International Trade Fair (IITF) told the reporters: 'Let the Tatas inform us what they are going to do with the 600 acres of land only then will we take our stand.'

In keeping with the theme of IITF, which is to focus on sustainable and all-encompassing growth to ensure equality across all sectors of society, West Bengal in its state pavilion will highlight all aspects of its growth story, outlining the strategies formed and schemes implemented by the government as well as its achievements. The state will also exhibit Bengal's artistic and cultural traditions and hard-sell itself as a tourism and business hub to potential visitors and inventors.

Some of the key facets of the West Bengal pavilion this year include the pavilion façade  which projects 'pillars of growth' signifying hopes and aspirations of the people of the state and the vertical growth graph achieved due to the people-centric programmes and policies of the state government.

Several government departments, including Tourism, Agriculture, Marketing, Power, Industry and IT have been represented through panels and counters. The special attractions in the Tourism Section will be a representation of the golden sea beach of Digha, one of the most favoured tourist destinations of the state as well as an ‘akhara’  (unit) of ‘Bauls’ (wandering minstrels) of Bengal with life-size models.

All folk forms of Bengal like Chhau and Santhali and the colourful 'Basant Utsav' (spring festival)  have been depicted in front of the pavilion. Panchayat and rural development department and micro and small scale enterprises & textiles (MSSE&T) have portrayed all aspects of the state's sustainable growth strategies with the help of panels and artworks.
