West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has said that Bengal tops the country in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector with more than 35,000 new units having been set up, providing employment to nearly 3,20,000 people.
The credit disbursement worth Rs 35,000 crore over the last three years in the state is the highest in the country, Banerjee said on her Facebook page on Monday.
‘Instead of large factories, the small units have thrived among self help groups in the districts which get bank loans at low interest rate. Subsidy for these units is also around 30 per cent. Women are mostly involved in these units’, Trinamool MP Sisir Adhikari told Millennium Post.
‘We have been organising Synergy since September, 2013 to provide more customised solutions to the MSME entrepreneurs through hand holding support and personalized guidance. Nearly 40,000 entrepreneurs visited the clinics, help desks and technology pavilions and bank loan worth hundreds of crores were sanctioned to nearly 1800 enterprises in this first-ever state level conclave’, Banerjee explained.
‘In 2014 we adopted the strategy of taking the meet closer to the field level and accordingly we organised the first regional Synergy at Siliguri in February this year. The second regional Synergy was held at Howrah on 1-2 August, 2014. Loans worth Rs 1000 crore were sanctioned and investment proposals close to Rs 5000 crore were received in the event at Howrah”, wrote the chief minister.
Banerjee recently announced that her key focus would be bringing investment to the state and the nurturing economic development.
