Bengal govt to jointly organise Krishi Unnayan Mela at Kalyani with CII

The West Bengal government jointly with the Confederation of Indian Industries will organise a three-day agriculture fair at Mohanpur in Kalyani from Wednesday to train farmers on the latest irrigation, machineries and fertilisers.

State agriculture minister Purnendu Bose said that for the first time the state government was jointly organising such a fair with a business confederation.

‘The fair at Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV) will provide the farmers opportunities to know the use of high-tech machineries for better harvesting,’ Bose said.

Besides Bose, a host of other ministers involved with the development in related areas would grace the occasion.

Several organisations and companies associated with the sectors like poultry, fisheries, dairy, horticulture and floriculture will participate in the fair.

Under the banner of ‘Krishi Unnayan Mela-2014’, the event will exhibit agriculture-related products and services.

Besides having a buyer-seller meet, the farmers could purchase equipment directly from the manufacturers in the fair at low prices.

A separate session ‘Krishak Pathshala’ will be held regularly in order to educate and provide training to the farmers on farm mechanisation, enhanced cropping intensity, improvement in high-yielding varieties of seeds and other agro-related topics.

Participants will come from first moving consumer goods(FMCG) related to agriculture, food-processing, banking, insurance and financial institutes, educational sectors, research and training institute, animal husbandry, cold storage, packaging and solar power sectors.
