Belligerent CM goes on whirlwind tour

Pinched by the unfavourable reports in a section media about the performance of the Congress party in the upcoming polls, chief minister Sheila Dikshit went on a day long whirlwind electioneering in east Delhi addressing as many as nine public meetings in support of party candidates Ambrish Gautam (Kondli), Harnam Singh (Trilokpuri), Dr AK Walia (Laxmi Nagar), Anil Chaudhary (Patparganj), Naseeb Singh (Vishwasnagar ), Dr Narendar Nath (Shahdra), Arvinder Singh (Gandhi Nagar) and Dr VK Monga (Krishna Nagar).

The meetings were organised in Kalyanpuri-Kondli constituency, Trilokpuri-Trilokpuri segment, Mayur Vihar phase I-Patparganj, Shakarpur and Vijay Chowk-Laxmi Nagar, Daksh Road-Vishwas Nagar, Dilshad Garden-Shahdara, Kanti Nagar-Gandhi Nagar and Geeta Colony.

Despite facing anti-incumbency of 15 years rule and also peoples’ anger over inflation, Dikshit managed to enthuse voters and appealed to them to ensure victory of all Congress candidates to give another chance to the party to take Delhi forward with an accelerated pace.

During the course of her campaign, Dikshit stated that the BJP record during 1993-98 was very dismal. ‘Their government could not commission a single hospital, not even a single unauthorised colony was regularised, not even a single rupee was spent on development works in such colonies and they could not commission any university. Delhi witnessed a number of deaths due to dropsy and dengue. It also witnessed the outbreak of plague,’ she said.

Dikshit added that the Congress government during its 15 years tenure took Delhi to new heights to make it number one state in the country. Dikshit also stated that the Congress knows how to govern and accomplish the projects in a planned manner.
