Speaking to the correspondent at his residence on Friday, he said that Kejriwal had vowed not to enter politics during the Anna Hazare movement but he deserted his mentor and the campaign at the first exposure to power. Similarly, now Bedi, who is on record criticising PM Narendra Modi, has betrayed the trust of the people associated with the Anna campaign.
“Both Kejriwal and Bedi have demeaned and raised questions on India Against Corruption,” said Maken.
He said Bedi had praised the India Against Corruption movement, led by Hazare, as a forum through which people could participate in the movement enthusiastically. “The movement was neither anti-Congress nor pro-BJP but she betrayed the trust of the people who were associated with it.”
He further added: “I have great regard for Hazare in my heart. When he and his team were holding rallies at Ramlila maidan, I was then busy fighting corruption in the sport ministry involving Suresh Kalmadi in the Commonwealth Games scams. At that time, I had ordered a CBI inquiry against Kalmadi.
Taking a dig at Bedi, he said she used to dream of becoming the Delhi Police Commissioner and has now started dreaming about being the chief minister.
Maken raked up Bedi’s past to target her move to the BJP. He completely dismissed it saying that the move would not have any effect on the upcoming Delhi assembly.
Congress has cleared Prof Kiran Walia name from New Delhi seat long time back but the BJP could not issue its candidate’s name yet. Speculations are rife that Kiran Bedi might take on Kejriwal.
Maken conceded that in the last assembly polls, Congress faced double anti-incumbency in Delhi government as well as in UPA-II. But now, the people have got to know AAP and BJP and can see that they have not been able to fulfill a single promise made just before the assembly elections.
Maken will contest from Sadar Bazar this time.
