“Smart and diligent towards her work, the 24-year-old never shared much about her personal life with us,” said one of the colleagues who worked with the victim at the spa in Sonipat. She had joined the spa services being owned by Vikas Goel, just 15 days back. The owner told Millennium Post that she was always very enthusiastic about her work.
He said: “She was working at my friend’s spa centre for many months. There she came in contact with me and asked me for a job.”
After her father expired, she became the sole breadwinner of her family comprising three sisters and her mother. She dropped studies after Class VII. “Her family lives in Uttam Nagar. However, to cut travel expenses, she shifted to Sonipat. Her mother often called me asking for advance money to pay for her sister’s education. Since she was a diligent worker, I gave her the advance money. Moreover, she never revealed how a man living near her flat had eyes on her.”
“The day she was being taken to a government hospital in Sonipat, I called her sister first so that her mother does not feel the shock. The first words of her sister were: “Bhaiya, kyu mazak kar rahe ho? (Brother, why are joking like this?) to which I was shocked. I told her that it is a serious matter and they all must immediately reach the hospital. To this, their mother snatched the phone and rebuked, “hum itni dur nahi aa sakte” (We cannot travel to Sonipat. It’s too far for us). “It was only after her was admitted to AIIMS Trauma Center that her mother came here with two other persons. She outrightly said: “Mujhe toh dekh kar hi ulti aa rahi hai” (I felt like vomiting as soon as I saw her). Although she was unconscious but she heard her mother loud and clear,” said Vikas. Taken to the Operation Theatre since 12 in the morning, Vikas told Millennium Post how the surgery is going on till the filing of this report. “All her facial bones have been damaged. Doctors are trying to repair her jaw. Although she has undergone basic treatment, it is a long struggle for her with the surgery of her eyes lined up in the coming days.”
Meanwhile, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sent four members to monitor her treatment and ensure that proper post-operative care is meted out.
