Battling the big questions

A zealous young lot enacting a political satire, written by a renowned Hindi playwright make for an alluring offer to visit Sri Ram Centre coming weekend. Lo and behold, as the young and culturally active team of Cinecaste set out to initiate, invigorate and inspire you through their play Hawalaat on 24 May.

Considering the brouhaha about India's demographic dividend, this play is a timely attempt to show the flipside of the entire scenario. Penned by Sarweshwar Dayal Saxena, it's a mockery of the system that is unable to tap the potential of its most hyped resource- manpower. Explaining the crux of his play, Devesh Nigam, the director says,' It's a commentary on the present system of society. How motivated youth becomes a puppet in the hands of authorities- whoever they be- and end up getting baffled without having made any change'. Devesh confides, he witnessed the uproar in people and media at Jantar Mantar and India Gate in the last few years; what he saw inspired him to enact this play for the audience.

The hard hitting act is a story that revolves around three boys who are left shelterless, without any food, on one of the coldest night in winters. Here on, a cold reality takes form as they figure out their way through the night.
