After Millennium Post highlighted Sabana’s (35) misery on last Wednesday, who was given an unusually delayed date for surgery, social jurist Ashok Agarwal wrote a letter to Batra Hospital on Friday to operate the patient at the earliest. Agarwal is a member of the EWS Monitoring Committee of the Delhi government, appointed by the Delhi high court.
“I have directed the hospital to admit her for surgery on a priority basis,” said Agarwal, after meeting her at his chamber in Tis Hazari Court. Agarwal regularly meets aggrieved EWS patients. “The government machinery is unable to help these people. It’s a lawyer’s OPD,” he added. On Friday, he recommended 10 EWS patients to various hospitals. After persistent pain in her stomach for several days, Sabana went to Batra Hospital on February 1, this year. The hospital made her visit for various checkups and finally, on April 14 asked her to come for a surgery after being diagnosed with a kidney stone on September 22. Agarwal has written recommendation letters for 573 EWS patients from August 22, 2014 to June 8, 2015.
