Banks selling customers’ data, reveals sting

A Delhi based news channel has claimed to have exposed the nexus of bank and telecom operators across the country which sells confidential data of customers to other business organisation.  

The channel, which is said to have conducted a sting operation titled ‘Mahabharat’ to unearth the nexus, revealed that the reporters have accessed data of around 10 crore people. 

The channel, through a press release have said that records of bank as well as telecom customers are being stolen by the employees of concerned department and are being sold openly by the people. ‘In last 10 months, a dozens of sting operations have been conducted exposing people who indulge in such fraud’, said the release from the news channel. 

During the sting, it was found that these people have data of over 20 crore people and the reporters posing as clients bought 10 crore by paying money. 

‘We got information like account number and names, date of births, addresses, and registered mobile phone numbers of the customers. We also got information relating to personal loan, home loan, car loan, customers’ income and other vital information which may harm consumers’ interest,’ said the release.
