In a high-level meeting held on Wednesday, banks were advised to engage only licensed security agencies in their premises, cash-in-transit arrangements and ATM kiosks.
The advice was put forth keeping in view the high number of cash-transit van and ATM heists, some of them even leading to murders, in 2014. The role of the security agencies have often come under scrutiny in such cases.
The high-level meeting on Wednesday was convened by the home department of the government of NCT of Delhi. It was attended by senior officials of Delhi Police and as many as 30 licensed security agencies, apart from individuals representing 28 banks (both nationalised and private).
“The banks were requested to ensure that the agencies hired by them are licensed from the government of NCT of Delhi and the guards deployed by such agencies are adequately trained as per the guidelines framed by the home department of government of NCT of Delhi,” said Arvind Ray, Principal Secretary (Home).
