Bailey belts 28 in a over, equals Lara’s record

Australian batsman George Bailey equalled Brian Lara’s Test record for most runs off an over against England in Perth on Monday. Bailey matched the feat when he hit James Anderson for 28 runs in the final over of Australia’s second innings on the fourth day of the third Test.

Bailey’s 4, 6, 2, 4, 6, 6 matched West Indies great Brian Lara’s record of most runs off one over in Test cricket, which he achieved by hitting South African Robin Peterson for 4, 6, 6, 4, 4, 4 in the Johannesburg Test in the 2003-04 season. The Tasmanian, in only his third Test, hit three sixes and two fours in the over.

Watson lauds Lehmann’s influence on Australia

PERTH: All-rounder Shane Watson said on Monday the Australian team had turned the corner since the appointment of Darren Lehmann as national coach. Lehmann took over from Mickey Arthur after the South African mentor was sacked just 13 days before the previous Ashes series in England.
Speaking after Australia dominated the fourth day of the third Test at WACA to move to within five wickets of a series win, second-innings centurion Watson said the home team was a rejuvenated unit under Lehmann. ‘We are playing a lot better cricket. Even in our one-day cricket leading up to this Ashes series we were playing the Australian brand of cricket, taking the game on. Everyone is performing well and putting their hand up when the team needs it. Since Darren joined, it has been the most exciting time in my career. It’s great to be part of the present Australia team,’ he said.
